复旦大学近日称同城院校假冒复旦骗学生改志愿，并暗指是上海交大所为，遭到交大否认，引发了两所著名高校间的口水仗。两校因争抢生源而引起的冲突，暴露的只是国内知名高校生源大战的冰山一角。名校间的`招生竞争在近几年里已愈演愈烈，渐呈白热化趋势。

Two of Shanghai’s leading universities are involved in a fierce dispute over alleged poaching of talented students, as competition among universities on the Chinese mainland continues to intensify.
上海两所著名高校近日卷入争抢生源的口水仗中，大陆高校争抢生源的竞争愈演愈烈。
文中的poaching of talented students就是指“争抢生源”，指的是在高校招生过程中，通过签订“预录取协议”等手段，争抢高分考生。“生源”一般用student pool来表示，这里的talented students指的是各地的“优质生源”。
北大等高校已经开始实行nominations from their headmasters（校长推荐制）以及independent recruitment （自主招生）等新的招生方式，但大多数高校的招生录取制度迟迟不变，导致出现了这些招生乱象。
Poach在这里指的是“挖走人员、挖墙角”，还可以表示“窃取”。比如：Rival investment banks are exploiting the upheaval at Morgan Stanley by trying to poach staff and clients.（投资银行竞争对手纷纷利用这次变动“挖墙角”，把目标瞄准了摩根斯坦利的员工和客户。）
